Katie Mainwaring

Katie Mainwaring is an artist who loves to find the magic in everything. Her work is largely reflective of her beautiful west coast surroundings, but also by the world of fantasy hidden beyond. 

Katie’s subject matter and medium varies from landscapes to line drawings but there is always a sense of mystery or something to spark the imagination. Katie strives to create that connection of curiosity within the viewer and to make them feel something they’ve not felt before.                                          

Recently, Katie’s passion for maps has inspired her to make a map of her home of Bowen Island in Howe Sound. Katie wanted it to be geologically accurate but at the same time exciting to look at, as if you were looking at a treasure map. Mermaids, sea monsters and sunken treasure can be found scattered amongst the many other details, only some of which are real.  It’s up to the viewer to find out which ones!
