Feature Artist - Dave Brewin

DAVE BREWIN – BIO

Dave Brewin has been an artist at heart since he was very young, first learning the artistry of wooden boatbuilding, and then at 34, moving from Montreal to Victoria BC to become a professional photographer. Eventually, with a push from his wife and daughters, he expanded his creative expression to abstract painting.

In October of 2022, Dave reintroduced himself to the wood lathe, something he hadn’t worked on since high school 1976.

As his artistry with lathe work evolved, Dave experimented with a variety of wood, including grapevine wood donated by his friend George Hansen of Seven Stones Estate Winery prior to his passing away. As a tribute to George’s legacy and to preserve the original Seven Stones Winery vines, Dave creates turned pieces using that same grapevine wood.

Dave and his wife reside in the beauty and serenity of the Similkameen Valley, after having moved from the Lower Mainland BC in 2015, away from the bustle of the city.

Dave is now retired and a member of Artist’s of the Similkameen, The Penticton Arts Council and is an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Dave’s paintings and wood turnings can be found in various galleries and wineries in the South Okanagan. You can also see more of his work at events listed on his website at www.artisbrewin.com.
