November Feature Artist - Bob Miller (Bob the Carver)

Featured Artist for November is Bob Miller (aka Bob the Carver). His stunning bird carvings and musical instruments, especially violins, will be showcased along with a very special book of Bob’s works, put together by two other local makers, Cherie Westmoreland (photography) and Larry Adams (book design). A few copies of this special book will be available for purchase at the gallery.

Bob Miller Artist Statement

Woodworking has been a passion for me from my earliest years, especially in terms of grain texture and colour.  When I first saw a duck decoy, I knew I had to carve some and then moved into creating other birds, notably songbirds, owls, hawks and eagles. These life-like carvings take a pose that is typical for that bird. I carve for my own satisfaction and am pleased when others show enjoyment of the birds. Many people have a particular bird that has special meaning for them.

Violins are appealing to me to build because of their shape and the patterns in the wood.  My violins are hand carved from BC wood.  While I enjoy listening to violin music, I don’t play an instrument myself, but I can make music!
